Jobs for over 3,000 Lankans in S Korea

Over 3,000 Sri Lankan youths have found employment in South Korea during the first half of this year. The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) said yesterday that South Korea has become a popular destination for Sri Lankan foreign employment aspirants due to higher wages and better perks. The SLBFE said that they had been able to secure jobs for over 8,000 Sri Lankan youths in South Korea since the latter part of 2010.
However there was a brief lull in sending migrant workers to South Korea in the early part of 2010 as the Korean economy suffered set backs due to effects of the global economic melt.
With the South Korean economy recovering and making rapid progress the opportunities for Lankan migrant worker aspirants too has increased.

According to SLBFE, a large number of youth from a total of 5,032 who passed the Korean Language proficiency test in 2010 are employed in Korea.
The rest are expected to secure employment no later than the first quarter of 2012. According to SLBFE, Sri Lanka ranks very high in the Korean job market due to the efficiency and productivity of Lankan labour migrants.
The SLBFE provides a comprehensive in house pre-departure training for all Sri Lankans migrating to South Korea for employment.
