SriLankan air taxi service is operational to central hill country

Apr 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka's national carrier, SriLankan has set its air taxi service in operation to Nuwara Eliya in the central hills.
The sea plane collects passengers from Peliyagoda, a suburb of capital Colombo and lands in the Lake Gregory in Nuwara Eliya. The ride takes only 30 minutes.
The first sea plane, Twin Otter twin-engine aircraft , carrying a group of 15 tourists landed on the calm waters of Lake Gregory recently after successful trial runs, the state-run television ITN reported.
Lake Gregory has been specially cleared to provide a water-dome for the twin engine aircraft, and a special dock has been built for the passengers to disembark.
Earlier the national carrier operated an air taxi service to several domestic destinations but suspended in 2007 due to deteriorating security and a drop in foreign visitors during the war.
