Leadership skills for Uni students

The Higher Education Ministry, with the support of the Defense Ministry, has decided to conduct a two-week leadership training programme at selected army camps for the next batch of university students, officials said.

Ministry Secretary Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navaratne told Daily Mirror that all students selected for university would be given a chance to improve their presentation skills, visionary thinking and conflict resolution skills.

Also, Dr. Navaratne said that university students’ ability to work as a team would also be improved at this training programme scheduled to commence in May.

“They must have leadership skills such as patience to listen to others and take decisions. We need good leaders to develop the country. Without good leaders, we cannot develop the country,” he said.

He said, “There is a misconception because the programme is going to be conducted at army camps. We selected army camps because they are the only venues that can accommodate well over 20,000 students at once. This is a nationwide programme.” (Kelum Bandara) DM
