1000 security personnel to suppress students protest at J'pura University

It is reported around 1000 security personnel from the Army and Police have been stationed in Jayawardenepura Campus by now. The reason for this move is the students' protest against the arrival of the President to open the 'Mahinda Rajapaksa' swimming pool within the Campus which is scheduled for this evening.
17 student monks and 92 students have been suspended attending their lectures. The students demand to reinstate them to continue their education instead of having deceptive performances.
In the circumstances, all the students have decided to boycott the event. However the Students' Union states that the Vice Chancellor who is receiving the patronage of the Government is in attempt to influence the first year students to participate in this event by force. Accordingly the Administrative Officers on the instructions of the VC had visited the hostels last night and insisted them to take part in today's event. Some lecturers also while holding lectures on 12th instant have instructed the students to participate in this event.
