Inauguration of President Rajapaksa for second term:
Environment Ministry raises bar for itself, aims at planting 2 mn trees


All is set to plant 1.1 million trees throughout the country to mark President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s birthday and his inauguration for the second term at the auspicious time 10.07 am today, Environment Minister  Anura Priyadarshana Yapa told The Island yesterday.

The programme conducted under the "Deyata Sevana" project aimed at planting two million trees as the pubic had evinced a keener interest in the project than initially expected.

"It is going to be a record in Sri Lanka," Minister Yapa said pointing out that his Ministry was planning to plant 1.1 million trees within 11 minutes from 10.07 a.m. to 10.18 a.m.

The main ceremony would be held at Temple Trees with President Mahinda Rajapaksa planting a tree at the auspicious time, he said.
