Sri Lanka, a Medium Human Development Country – HDI

he Human Development Report 2010 ranking Sri Lanka as 91 of its Human Development Index (HDI) , has listed the country as a ‘Medium Human Development Countries’ .The report which is titled “The Real Wealth of Nations: Pathways to Human Development, is to be launched today by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, today.
India is ranked as 119 in the HDI and Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia have been ranked as 92, 97, and 108 respectively.
The report, which includes the HDI rankings of 169 countries, has ranked Norway, Australia, New Zealand and the U.S.A as the top four spots and called them as ‘Very High Human Development Countries’ among other 38 countries
Due to improved social indicators of literacy and life expectancy, Sri Lanka’s HDI has progressively increased up to 0.659 in 2010 compared to 0.513 in 1980, the report states.
