Mahela, Scores 10,000 Test runs: First in SL, ninth in the world


































Former Sri Lanka cricket captain Mahela Jayawardene yesterday became the first Sri Lanka batsman to score 10,000 Test runs in the first day’s play of the second Test between Sri Lanka and South Africa at Durban. Mahela needed just one run to reach the milestone and he was eventually bowled out at 31. He was playing in his 127th Test Match in a career spanning nearly 14 years. Kumar Sangakkara is the second highest run getter for Sri Lanka in Tests having scored 9,170 so far. Mahela is also the ninth in the world to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket. (AP Photo)
