Eye infection on the rise

The Health Ministry warns the public to be aware of Virus Conjuctivitis’, an eye infection effecting the public. The public should take a very good care of their eyes in order to prevent this infection. Around 60 persons are affected by this latest eye infection daily turn up at the National Eye Hospital.

Redness in your eye
The main symptoms of this eye infection are redness, tear and swelling in eyes, pain in eyes and difficulty to face the light.
The symptoms prevail for around three days, but patients need to seek medical treatment if those symptoms are severe.
The public can avoid getting infected by avoiding crowded places, not touching the face by contaminated hands and using personal towels, handkerchiefs and bed sheets. Hands should be washed thoroughly before touching your face.

Once a person is affected by the eye infection, he or she should take care of themselves while protecting the public.
But the part of `protecting the public’ never comes into practice in Sri Lanka. No matter whether it is a serious infection or not, no one thinks about the public at all.
People wear masks only when they want to protect themselves. Nobody wears masks to protect others! This is similar when it comes to all the other types of infections.
People with eye infections do not stay at homes.

Before putting any eye drops consult your doctor
They travel in public transport and engage in their daily routines.
There are no rules and regulations to make them stay at home during an infectious disease.
Rarely, do sick family members keep themselves away from the rest of the family. Therefore all including infants and children get infected when a family member gets an infection.
Infants and children are the most affected group due to the ignorant behaviour of the infected people.
It’s the responsibility of the public to prevent the spread of all types of infectious diseases. But unfortunately many people do not seem to have taken this matter into consideration.
Some patients need to avoid viral infections and other infectious diseases because they are weak and it is very hard for them to face them.
