The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team (SLCERT) said yesterday it had received many complaints from Facebook users regarding profiles that contain material derogatory to Buddhism.
Senior Information Security Engineer Rohana Palliyaguru of SLCERT, the national centre for cyber security, speaking to Daily Mirror said several complaints had been made concerning Facebook users who had circulated material that degraded Buddhism.
However, Mr. Palliyaguru said they were not in a position to block such accounts under the current conditions.
Therefore he urged Facebook users with similar grievances, to make their complaints directly to the Facebook.
“If they receive a considerable amount of such complaints concerning a particular account, they will take measures to de-activate such accounts,” he added.
SLCERT earlier this year announced that it had received more than 650 complaints within about eight months concerning Facebook crimes and said the majority of them were on fake accounts and password thefts.
SLCERT, upon investigating the complaints, took measures to cancel the fake accounts.
