FB cancels accounts

altThe social media network Facebook has cancelled over 100 accounts activated from Sri Lanka over abuse of the service following a complaint lodged by the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team (SLCERT), officials said.
Information Security Engineer of SLCERT Sri Lanka Rohana Palliyaguru told News Now.lk that Facebook has cancelled approximately 150 Sri Lankan accounts over misuse of accounts including impersonation and other related violations.
SLCERT had received several complaints regarding the misuse of Facebook and the information was forwarded to the popular social media network to cancel the accounts.
As was reported by News Now.lk early last week Facebook is also awaiting a court order from Sri Lanka to provide details regarding some accounts.
Facebook has collected details on Sri Lankans who use the site for criminal activities and will release the information once a court order is obtained.
The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team (SLCERT) had sought the information from Facebook to curb the growing number of incidents of Facebook crime.
SLCERT said that the CID which is investigating the complaints is in the process of obtaining the court order to get the information from Facebook.
