Vice-Chancellor Of J-Pura Proves He’s Insane – A Bhikku Passed Away Several Months Suspended

44 students including 12 Bhikku students have been suspended from Sri Jayawardenepura University for carrying out an agitation on the 26th against repression of students and the attempt to privatize education.  The eccentricity of this act is that a Bhikku who had passed away a few months ago too has been suspended with other student Bhikkus.

The Students Council of the Sri Jayawardenepura University had called a media briefing regarding this yesterday and Ven. Kamburupitiye Ganissara Thero, the President of the Council said, “44 students of the University including 12 student Bhikkus have been suspended making an agitation held on the 26th of October as an excuse. What is queer about this act is a letter of suspension has been sent to Ven. K.R. Sarananda Thero who passed away a few months ago. Also, a student who had disrobed and has changed his name and all the necessary documents including his identity card has got a letter of suspension to his former name (Ven. B. Udithe Thero / AR 60747).

The students have been totally denied of their right to freedom of expression and the freedom of association. The vice-chancellor N.L.A. Karunaratne has also suspended students who had not been at the vicinity of the university on the particular day. Earlier too he had suspended students without any inquiry or any reason.”
