Lankan tea for Japanese quake victims

* Quantity – Three million packets

Sri Lanka yesterday donated three million packets of tea worth US$ 60,000 to the tsunami hit people of Japan. Thousands of people died and over 200,000 became displaced in the Tohoku – Pacific earthquake which triggered a devastating tsunami in several parts of Japan.
The Sri Lanka Tea Exporters Association yesterday handed over the donation to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees to be sent to the people affected by the Japanese tsunami which claimed more than 15,000 lives.
Association Chairman Jayantha Keragala handed over the consignment of tea to the President. Plantation Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Ambassador designate to Japan Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, Tea Board Chairman Susantha Ratnayake and Association Vice Chairman Rohan Fernando were present. It was disclosed that President Mahinda Rajapaksa has decided to extend the fullest support of the Government of Sri Lanka to the people of Japan in this time of need.
