Broadband, internet for rural areas Students need more exposure:


The internet facility should be made available for all students in the country to achieve benefits from the evolvement of the ICT industry.
“The country should retain computer professionals within the industry as we are losing our talents to international markets. However, opportunities for skill development need to be given to locals as well as in foreign countries,” he said.The internet is the key for modern development to take place and students should gain exposure with the rest of the world. However, the regulatory framework needs to be expanded fast to accommodate the changing needs of the ICT industry, Softlogic Holdings Chairman Ashok Pathirage told Daily News Business.
“The country is in the right direction and the path to reap the benefits from this emerging sector. The development in the ICT industry will take time and there is lot more to be done, Pathirage said.
“It is important to be computer literate in dealing with modern day business environment. We need to enhance facilities and access to the internet in rural areas.
“Broadband facilities should be geared to cater to the growing demand for services. Infrastructure facilities should be upgraded to ensure wider coverage,” Pathirage said.
