Sri Pada season begins today
The annual Sri Pada pilgirm season starts today, Unduwap full moon Poya day. The statue of God Saman and golden ornaments were taken in procession from Pelmadulla Galpottawala Raja Maha Vihara and laid at Sri Pada Maluwa at the auspicious time.
The season will be held until Vesak Poya Day next year. The number of pilgrims are expected to rise with the peaceful environment prevailing in the country. Ven Pushpadampahala Sheelananda thera said the new step way from Seetha Gangula to Idikatupana will provide easy access to devotees.
An extra police team and special anti-narcotic officers have been deployed, Central Provincial Senior DIG Gamini Navaratne said. According to Nuwaraeliya District Secretary D P G Kumarasinge measures have been taken to provide facilities to the pilgrims and urged devotees to refrain from using polythene.
