Sports Ministry bouncer to ICC chief

Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage is to lodge an official complaint with International Cricket Council (ICC) President Sharad Pawar over the shabby treatment given to Sri Lankan ministers and their family members at the Cricket world cup finals in Mumbai on April 2.
Ministry spokesman Harsha Abeykoon said the Sri Lankan ministers had to wait for long hours in queues in the scorching sun for security checks and they had to buy tickets at ‘black market’ rates from shops close to the stadium.
He said the ministers were not given the opportunity to be with President Mahinda Rajapaksa, but instead had to watch the finals from different enclosures. As many as 20 ministers and deputies went to Mumbai for the world cup finals.

Among them were Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, C.B. Ratnayake, Dilan Perera, John Seneviratne and Susil Premajayantha. Mr. Abeykoon said visiting dignitaries to Sri Lanka were given much better facilities for the world cup matches played in Sri Lankan venues.
