Following Western Provincial Council member and former Sri Lankan Cricket Captain Hashan Thilakaratne’s revelation that since 1992 match fixing had been taking place in Sri Lanka, Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has said that if Thilakaratne named the persons involved, he would be given security.
On the instructions of the IGP, the Criminal Investigation Department was called in to investigate the allegations made by the former captain. Hashan Thilakaratne has stated to the media that if he were to name those involved in match fixing, he would need sufficient security.
If Thilakaratne has a positive attitude with regard to the future of cricket, he should corporate with the investigations conducted by the CID and come out with the names of the said people, the Minister has said in a statement to the media.
Aluthgamage has said that Thilakaratne should give a written request to the IGP so that measures could be taken to provide him with security.
