Doyen of Sinhala Cinema Dr. Lester James Peiries celebrates his 92nd birthday today (05). Breaking away from the typical South Indian style Sri Lankan audiences were accustomed to, Lester James Peries changed the course of Sinhala cinema in December 1956 with Rekawa (The Line of Destiny).
It even went to the Cannes Film Festival (1957). Having contributed immensely during the past few decades for Sri Lankan cinema industry, Dr. Peiris now enjoys a quiet retirement together with his wife Sumithra, who is also an internationally acclaimed film maker.
