The police say several cracks on the ground reported from Kuchchuveli Saturday night and yesterday morning, have triggered panic as people think they are sighs of an earthquake.
Disaster Management Centre sources told The Island that the cracks would be scientifically investigated.
The police said that residents of Kalapai Aru in Kochuveli had seen the cracks and brought them to the notice of authorities.
The police said that the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau had been alerted.
The police urge the public not to converge in the area as it would hamper the on-going investigations.
