by S. K. Kaluarachi and Lalith Chaminda Galle Magistrate Thamara Tennekoon yesterday issued a warrant on parliamentarian and former Sri Lanka cricket captain Arjuna Ranatunga for his failure to appear in Court yesterday, over a case involving an attack on a Police jeep. He was one of the accused.
He had been summoned to appear in Courts in connection with an incident on Aug. 12, 2010 during an agitation campaign by the DNA in Galle to pressure the government to release General Sarath Fonseka and bring down the prices of essential commodities.
When the case was called yesterday Ranatunga was not present. A lawyer representing him told Court that his client had gone abroad for a short period. The case was postponed to July 25.
