A petition, seeking an order to ensure the removal of all the obstacles that cause water to stagnate in the Western province, mainly in the Colombo city was submitted to the Western Provincial High Court today.The petition, which was submitted by the Centre for Environmental Justice-an environmental rights group in Sri Lanka- against the relevant Government Ministers and Government agencies, stated that that the people have been compelled to suffer from rain water but there has been no remedial measures taken by the defendants.
During the past few weeks Colombo and its suburbs experienced heavy flooding due to frequent showers which hindered the day to day life of the public severely. (Manopriya Gunasekera)
