Colombo: Countrywide ceremonies will be held from tomorrow to November 20 at the Independence Square, to mark the inauguration of the second term of office of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has told local media.
Minister Keheliya Rambukwella also invited the public to taste the 4,000kg Kiribath being prepared to mark the President’s birthday and the second term in office on November 18 at the Independence Square, the state-run Daily News newspaper reported yesterday.
The 4,000kg Kiribath will be prepared by Chef Dr Pubilis Silva together with chefs working in star hotels in Sri Lanka.
A world record and a patent right will be obtained for the massive Kiribath, the Minister said. This novel exhibition and celebrations are organised by the Government Information Department under the aegis of Mass Media and Information Ministry to coincide with the swearing-in ceremony of President Rajapaksa for his second term.
A special photographic exhibition stall under the theme ‘Historical memoirs’ depicting Sri Lankan’s livelihood to modern day lifestyle and Sri Lanka’s development activities of the past and the present will be highlighted at the exhibition. Food prepared according to various cultures in Sri Lanka will be a special feature at the exhibition ‘Our Food Heritage’. Agencies
